Gaza Interior Ministry: Mavi Marmara is a symbol of freedom
[ 27/12/2010 - 07:15 PM ]
GAZA, (PIC)-- The Interior Ministry in Gaza said Sunday that the Mavi Marmara ship served as a symbol of freedom by standing in the face of and refusing to surrender to the Israeli naval force that lethally attacked it late last May.
The ship's return to its homeland after seven months of being detained at Port Ashdod after the bloody military raid was a victory for peace activists the world over, the ministry said in a press statement.
The Gaza ministry praised the role of pro-Palestinians in their missions to the Gaza Strip with intent to break the unjust blockade that has been suffocating the region for the past four years.
The Interior Ministry also commended the sacrifices of the Turkish victims aboard the ship, saying: “These martyrs will never be erased from memory after their blood mixed with the blood of Palestinian leaders and spilled into the Mediterranean.”
The Mavi Marmara ship, which was seized seven months back by the Israeli military after attacking the vessel while on its path to breaking the Gaza siege, was welcomed by rallies of Turks in their capital of Istanbul Sunday morning.
Thousands of Turks gathered at Port Soeriabol in Istanbul to receive the ship that they boast “marmared the Israeli forces”.
