Lebanon Following Up Egyptian-Israeli Spy Confessions Seriously

25/12/2010 A Lebanese Judicial source confirmed on Saturday that the Lebanese judicial authorities were closely following up the Egyptian investigations with Israeli spy Tareq Abdel Razzaq and his confessions that a similar spy network is functioning in Lebanon.

Speaking to pan-Arab daily As-Sharq Al-Awsat, the judicial reference denied that the Lebanese authorities had actually launched investigations over the possible spread of the network to Lebanon.

"Until now, we have not received any information from the Egyptian authorities on this matter," the source said, expecting at the same time that such information could be received any minute now.

The source, meanwhile, stressed that Lebanon is dealing with these developments very seriously, especially since the official Lebanese authorities succeeded in dismantling tens of spy networks in 2009 and 2010.

A few days ago, Egypt announced that it had uncovered a network of Israeli spies that included an Egyptian businessman. Egyptian security authorities also arrested an Egyptian citizen, Tareq Abdel Razzaq, on charges of spying for Israel. His confessions helped uncover three networks working for Israeli intelligence.
