It held the Ramallah authority responsible for the lives of those detainees and for those who are on hunger strike especially after the serious deterioration in their health conditions.
Hamas MP Mushir Al-Masri, for his part, said that militia leaders in the West bank should stand trial at international courts for their cruel treatment of detainees and violations of human rights.
He accused Abbas's authority of intentional blackout on news of those detainees, and called on human rights groups to shed light on the violations committed by Abbas's authority in this regard.
The Palestinian center for defense of prisoners in Gaza expressed absolute concern over the lives of those detainees.
Director of the center Ismail Al-Thawabta told the PIC on Monday night that relatives of those detainees affirmed that they were adamant on maintaining their hunger strike until their demands for immediate release as ruled by the higher court were met.
He warned that the death of those detainees would lead to catastrophic results and would "burn all cards" used to resolve the internal division.
A mother of one of those detainees told the PIC on Monday night that they did not end their strike as alleged by the Fatah-controlled militias.
She said that the Red Cross had visited her son Majd Obeid last Thursday and said that he was still on strike and that his health was worsening as a result.
Barhoum: PA's torture of Hamas's people is only a matter of time
[ 20/12/2010 - 08:01 PM ]
GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a statement Monday that the Palestinian Authority's torture of his party's elements was only a matter of time.
“The Hamas movement is greater than your prisons,” Barhoum said, addressing the Fatah party. “The time for Hamas's heroes is definitely coming, and your pleasure in torturing our people is a matter of time only. In the end, will and resistance shall triumph.”
Barhoum called on Hamas supporters in the West Bank to confront Fatah intelligence officials. “Our national and religious duty calls for challenge not surrender.”
