Rafiq Nasrallah to Al-Manar: Lebanon Needs Decisive Stance

“As expected, the Saudi-Syrian initiative didn’t succeed in reaching a settlement to the Lebanese current crisis,” Lebanese political analyst Rafiq Nasrallah told Al-Manar website.
TWO BLOCS WITHIN SAUDI ADMINISTRATION
According to Nasrallah, the main reason of the failure of the Saudi-Syrian efforts resides in the Saudi stance which is witnessing huge contradictions. “The Saudi official stance is divided between two main blocs: the first seeks to find an effective role in the region and the second insists in executing the American scheme.”
Nasrallah noted that the bloc adopting the American project within the Saudi administration has the biggest influence in the Saudi decision-making process. He emphasized that the statement made on Wednesday by Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal, in which he said his country has abandoned mediation efforts in Lebanon, was the biggest proof.
LEBANESE FACING MAJOR CHALLENGE
Nasrallah said that Lebanese are facing a major challenge. “The supporters of the plot of confronting the Resistance and targeting it through the use of the international tribunal will not retract, especially after they forced the failure of all efforts to reach settlement in Lebanon,” he explained. “Moreover, the Qatari-Turkish effort didn’t carry out a serious initiative but sought to re-vivify Saudi-Syrian initiative, despite its mourning by one of its sponsors, the Saudi side.”
He unveiled that the opposition has reached a final decision concerning the current situation in the region in general and in Lebanon in particular. “The opposition’s stance is built on the base of the impossibility to get along with Saad Hariri and his political team which seeks to get rid of the Resistance. The condition for coexistence with Hariri is the presence of restrictions guaranteed by an international or regional side. Yet, the opposition fully believes that Saad Hariri can’t commit to any restriction and that there is no at the current time any trustworthy side with the ability to guarantee Hariri and his political team.”
NEW TYPE OF BALANCE: DECISIVE ONE
According to Nasrallah, the Lebanese scene is in urgent need for a new type of balance: the decisive one. “Previous experiences have shown that no solution or settlement was reached without a decisive stance,” he said. “This is what the national opposition needs today.”
