Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said on Tuesday that France should release Georges Abdallah, the ex-leader of the Lebanese Armed Revolutionary Faction, since his jail term ended in 1999 and he remained in prison upon the request of the French justice ministry.
During a meeting with a delegation from the international campaign to release George Ibrahim Abdallah headed by his brother Joseph Ibrahim Abdallah, Sheikh Qassem stressed that there’s no space for the French justifications of the continuous detention of Abdallah, adding that the whole case is political per excellence.
“The French government is urged to release George Abdallah and stop its violations of his legal rights as a resistance man,” Sheikh Qassem said, calling upon the French concerned authorities to assume their responsibilities in this context.
Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General concluded by calling on the Lebanese government to adopt Abdallah’s cause, stressing the mentioned citizen is Lebanese and that Lebanon enjoys special ties with France, adding that it’s Lebanon’s right to call for the release of one of its oppressed people.
