Head of the Free Syrian Army demanded Thursday that the Arab League pulls its observer mission out of Syria and the United Nations takes over its responsibility. In an interview with AFP Free Syrian Army leader Riyadh Al-Assad said: "We hope they will announce that their mission was a failure and that they will be withdrawn… We call on the Arab League to step aside and let the United Nations take over responsibility as it is more apt to find solutions. |

Qatar Prime Minister Hamad Bin Jassem Al-Thani discussed Wednesday the Syrian situation and the Arab League observers’ work in Syria with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and stated that “there are some mistakes”. Al-Thani said the discussion was aimed at learning about the UN’s experience with such observance missions, for this was the first time the Arab League takes this action. “We are coming here for technical help and to see the experience the UN has, because this is the first time the Arab League is involved in sending monitors, and there are some mistakes,” Al-Thani indicated. He further pointed out that “this is the first experience for us. I said we have to evaluate what sorts of mistakes have been made,” adding that “we need the experience from the UN and we need to see how we can evaluate if they go back, how they will work." For his part, the AL Chief Nabil Al-Arabi rejected Wednesday calls for withdrawing the observers from Syria, assuring that the mission will continue its job until the end. “We have a specific mission for a renewable month in which many things can be achieved, but now we need to evaluate the situation, " he said.
