Iran stood fast at P5+1 meeting: Bibi frets

We have always stated that pressure and the language of threat is useless in dealing with the Iranian nation, but talks and cooperation can be a positive approach,” said Iran’s chief negotiator Saeed Jalili at the end of two rounds of 10-hour negotiations in Istanbul with P5+1 group (the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia plus Germany) headed by Baroness Cathrine Ashton, EU foreign policy chief.
Both Jalili and Ashton voiced satisfaction with the Saturday talks.

Iran and the six world powers resumed negotiations in Istanbul on Saturday after a year of stalled talks and are due to continue their talks in Iraq’s capital city, Baghdad, on May 23.

The NPT, Ashton said, will form “a key basis for what must be serious engagement, to ensure all the obligations under the NPT are met by Iran while fully respecting Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.”

Islamic Republic is a signatory to NPT while Israel still refuses to join the NPT and open its five secret nuclear facilities for IAEA inspections.

In the next rounds of negotiations, Tehran intends to raise some non-kosher issues, such as, Israel’s nuclear program and removal of the illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

The next meeting would center on; first nuclear disarmament; second the theory of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Leader, which is a clear view and can serve as a major approach towards nuclear disarmament; third preventing proliferation of the nuclear weapons which is amongst major issues of cooperation and fourth peaceful use of the nuclear technology as a given and indispensible right of the NPT member states,” said Jalili.

Israel and its western poodles who want the talks to fail – were surprised by Ashton’s optimistic statement. Ben Rhodes, White House Jewish deputy security adviser said United States sees room to negotiate over how Iran can prove that Tehran’s nuclear program is not an ‘existential’ threat to Israel. Benji Netanyahu was furious about Ashton’s praise for the hardliner Jalili. She called him “constructive and useful”.

My initial impression is that Iran has been given a freebie,” CNN reported Benji Netanyahu saying. “It has got five weeks to continue enrichment without any limitation, any inhibition“.

However, as first step to sabotage the Baghdad meeting – Israeli media reported that Jalili turned down a request by Wendy Sherman, head of US delegate for a bilateral meeting on the sideline of Istanbul meeting. The Iranian media did not mention any such US request while it did mention bilateral meetings between Iranian diplomats in Istanbul with Russian delegates and Catherine Ashton.

On March 28, writing in the neocon Foreign Policy magazine, distinguish American journalist, Mark Perry, exposed the hypocrisy of Washington’s ‘peace dialogue’ with Tehran. He wrote that behind the peace overtures to Iranian people, the US has provided Israeli army access to US airbases in Iran’s neighboring Shia-majority Azerbaijan.

We’re watching what Iran does closely. But we’re now watching what Israel is doing in Azerbaijan. And we’re not happy about it,”Perry quoted a US intelligence officer. The very fact that the way the National Jewish Democratic Council and Republican Jewish Coaliation are running a smear campaign against Mark Perry proves that he was telling the truth.

However, even if there is a grain of truth in the US-Iran bilateral meeting request story, I believe Jalili did a smart thing by not meeting a known Israel-Firster Jewish woman. Even a meeting on the sideline would have provided Israeli Hasbara an excuse to demean Islamic Republic. Tehran canceled diplomatic relation with Washington in 1979 after finding a nest of CIA-Mossad spies in US embassy in Tehran. Since then, Iranian interests in United States are look after by Turkey and American interests in Iran by Switzerland.

And finally, Iranians and their well-wishers who are pinnig some hopes on some sort of fair US understanding of Iran’s point of views – he must ponder on Ayatullah Ali Khamenei’s 1991 Noruz message.

Those who think that if we retreat on the nuclear energy issue, America’s emnity would end, are ignorant of this fact: Americas’ problem is not with Iran’s nuclear program. There are countries that have nuclear weapons, even in our own region, and the Americans don’t give a damn. Their problem is not with nuclear weapons or nuclear industry. Their problem is not with human rights. Their problem is the Islamic Republic, which stands before them like a lion. If the Islamic Republic was to betray its people like some regimes in the region, and surrender, they wouldn’t care. Their problem is their own excessive expectations for oppression. That’s the reason for their emnity with the nation of Iran,”said the Rahbar.
