Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson: “Attack on Syrian airbase plays into extremists’ hands”


Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has discussed the U.S. missile strike in Syria with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in a phone conversation, the ministry has said. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed there is no evidence of Syria’s involvement in the Idlib chemical incident.

On Saturday he told his American counterpart that the U.S. strike on the Syrian base had played into the extremists’ hands. Lavrov told his U.S. counterpart that Washington’s claims, accusing the Syrian army of the use of chemical weapons in Idlib on April 4, were “inaccurate and inconclusive“, the ministry said.
