RAFAH, (PIC)-- As Fatah faction prepares to hold its sixth congress after 20 years of unexplained delays, members of Fatah faction in Rafah district announced they will boycott the conference due to "grave" legal violations in scrutinizing and selecting members.

Munther Al-Bardaweel of Fatah in Rafah district explained in a written statement received by the PIC that the boycott decision was taken after an emergency meeting was held in Rafah to discuss the legal violations and the wrong mechanism in nominating candidates for the faction's central committee and for the revolutionary council.

He said that his group decided to write an a letter to the higher frameworks in the Movement to clarify a number of points regarding membership of the conference, describing the amendments on the membership as "irrational" and unacceptable.

Moreover, Bardaweel pointed out that those amendments were done behind the back of Fatah members in the districts, adding that many of qualified and honorable leaders in Fatah faction in Rafah were ignored and marginalized.

MP Ashraf Juma'a of Fatah faction in Rafah said that the decision was necessary to voice out our stand regarding this issue, stressing that at the end of the day the sixth congress won't succeed without the participation of Fatah members from the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, while Fatah leaders from Gaza such as Dr. Nabil Shaath insist that the Fatah conference should not be held without the attendance of representatives from the Gaza Strip, a current in the Fatah movement want to go ahead with the conference regardless.
