NABLUS, (PIC)-- Militias loyal to Mahmoud Abbas, the PA chief whose term in office expired more than a year ago, rounded up 12 Hamas cadres and supporters in the West Bank over the past 24 hours, according to a Hamas statement on Sunday.

The statement issued in the West Bank said that elements of the intelligence apparatus kidnapped Dr. Mustafa Al-Shannar, one of the Hamas political leaders, in front of his family after attending a wedding in Nablus city late Saturday.

It pointed out that Dr. Shannar was held for 30 months under administrative custody, without trial or charge, in Israeli occupation jails and was released only three months ago.

Dr. Shannar, 49, is a lecturer at the sociology department at Al-Najah university and he is originally from Salfit district.

The statement noted that Abbas's militias kidnapped five university students in Ramallah district including two brothers while a sixth student was abducted in Bethlehem district after beating him up.

The statement said that those militias also rounded up four citizens in Qalqilia district and a university student in Nablus city.
