GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, stated Sunday that the mission of US officer Keith Dayton in the West Bank is to protect the survival of the "peace option" and not to let the option of resistance progress, stressing that the "peace process" miserably failed.

During a symposium on the future of the Palestinian cause held by the Islamic University, Dr. Zahhar said that the Hamas Movement did not indulge itself into the maze of political axes as the Palestine liberation organization (PLO) did, affirming that the PLO’s involvement in these axes was detrimental to the Palestinian cause.

The Hamas official noted that the results of any future Palestinian elections in the West Bank would be shocking to Mahmoud Abbas’s authority because of its serious national violations there.

The official also highlighted the importance of the role that can be played by some regional countries towards the Palestinian cause, saying that Egypt and Turkey have historical responsibilities towards Palestine and must play a central role towards its national cause.

The official pointed to the importance of the Russian role as well, saying that the relations with Moscow should be invested in to end the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

Speaking about media reports regarding a possible war on Gaza, the senior Hamas leader opined that the Israeli occupation could not start a new war without making accurate calculations or before recovering its wrecked deterrence force which proved to be a failure during its wars on Lebanon and Gaza.
