Dweik renews call on Abbas to allow special PLC session on Aqsa events

GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Aziz Al-Dweik, the speaker of the Palestinian legislative council, has renewed his call on Mahmoud Abbas, the Fatah leader and the PA chief whose term in office expired over a year ago but still rules in the West Bank, to allow the PLC to convene in a special session.
Dweik told a press conference held in his office in Ramallah on Monday that the situation was very serious in the occupied city of Jerusalem and the Palestinian legitimacy should not be obstructed.
He said that the proposed PLC session would be also allocated for accomplishing inter-Palestinian reconciliation and reactivating legitimate institutions prior to the Arab summit.
The speaker elaborated on the Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem ever since its occupation back in 1967, noting that Israel demolished 24,000 houses in the holy city and built in their place 60,000 housing units for its settlers.
Dweik asked the Arab summit in Libya to adopt a binding strategy that would block the judaization of Jerusalem and to encourage its indigenous inhabitants' to stay in the city.
Resheq: Building ruins synagogue a declaration of war
[ 15/03/2010 - 04:40 PM ]
DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Political bureau member of Hamas Ezzet Al-Resheq has described the Israeli construction of the so-called ruins synagogue near the Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem as a "declaration of war" because of its direct threat to the holy site.
He added that the synagogue serves as a cornerstone for the judaization of Jerusalem, warning in a press release on Monday the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) of the repercussions of the aggressive policy against Jerusalem and the Aqsa.
Resheq affirmed that the Aqsa Mosque is a red line and any IOA attempt to cross that line would explode the Islamic anger.
The Hamas leader urged the Palestinian people in the West Bank Jerusalem and the lands occupied in 1948 to rise up in defense of the Aqsa and to declare Tuesday a day of rage for the holy site.
He urged the Ramallah authority led by Mahmoud Abbas to end the "farce" of resuming negotiations with the IOA, which, he said, only gave the IOA the required cover for its violation of Islamic and Christian shrines and for continuing the settlement and judaization processes.
Hamas issued a statement in Damascus on Monday saying that the inauguration of the ruins synagogue was a step toward laying down the foundation stone of the alleged temple on Tuesday.
It described Zionist historical stories in this regard as mere legends that had no basis and were circulated to justify the confiscation of Islamic holy shrines and to change the landmarks of Jerusalem.
The movement asked the Arab and Islamic governments to assume their duties in protecting Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.
It also asked Abbas and his entourage to end the futile negotiations with the IOA and to return to the Palestinian lines to confront the occupation and its schemes.
