Hamas condemns UNSC sanctions on Iran

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Hamas strongly denounced the UN Security Council resolution imposing a new batch of sanctions against Iran, describing it as a model for double standard policies.

The movement said in a statement on Wednesday that Iran is being punished for its peaceful nuclear program while Israel is being protected despite owning the biggest nuclear arsenal in the region and is committing crimes against humanity.

This is a Zionist-oriented decision that aims at depriving Arab and Islamic countries from their right to knowledge and peaceful nuclear energy, Hamas said.

It charged that the resolution is an attempt to cover up for the Israeli terrorist crimes against the Palestinian people and crimes against humanity at large the most evident being the recent bloody attack on the Freedom Flotilla.

For his part, Ezzet Al-Resheq, a political bureau member of Hamas, said in a press release on Wednesday that Washington had turned the UNSC into a special tool in its hand.

He said that the USA obstructed a similar resolution condemning the Israeli crime against the freedom Flotilla at a time the world streets were boiling with angry demonstrations against the crime.

Resheq said that the double standard policies at the UNSC were widening the gap between the USA and the West on the one hand and the Arab and Islamic peoples on the other.
