GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, has expressed absolute dismay at the UN call on international solidarity activists to trek land route to reach Gaza Strip rather than the sea route.
Describing the call as unacceptable and illegal, Abu Zuhri said in a press statement on Saturday that the call is a "real scandal" that reflects the UN collusion with the Israeli occupation.
He stressed that the call provides Israel with a cover for maintaining its piracy and aggression on international activists at sea.
Abu Zuhri, however, said that the land route which Martin Nesirky, Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, spoke about, was still closed, the latest such incident being the Jordanian aid convoy that was denied access into the Gaza Strip via Egypt other than the fact that most of the Gaza inhabitants are still blocked from leaving the enclave.
"We, in Hamas, urge international solidarity movements not to take heed of such an illegal call and to continue to head to Gaza on land and by sea until the siege is really broken," he concluded.
For his part, Hamas MP Yehya Mousa was sharper in his remarks, describing the UN position as not balanced, adding that it turned into an American tool.
The UN should have rather obliged Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza instead of serving as a partner to it, he elaborated.
The UN has turned into a part of the siege on Gaza, Mousa charged, calling on the UN to determine a route through which relief convoys could safely pass to Gaza without being a target of "Zionist piracy" and let that passage be under its supervision.
