Another False Witness in Roumieh Prison: Syria Seeks His Arrest!

26/07/2010

Day after another, new facts surprise all individuals and parties concerned with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri's case…

After the Special Tribunal for Lebanon rejected to deal with the "false witnesses" who misled the investigations for years, and after Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah called for the formation of a committee tasked with investigating false witnesses, eyes were again turned into one of the false witnesses, named Akram Murad.

Indeed, it was announced on Monday that the Syrian judiciary has issued an arrest warrant against Syrian citizen Akram Chakib Mourab, who's currently under arrest at Lebanon's Roumieh prison in charges of dealing with drugs.

The Syrian move came in response to a suit brought against Murad by Lebanese General Ali Hajj, who was arrested for four years over the case according to false testimonies.

Media reports said that the Syrian prosecutor has sent his Lebanese counterpart Said Mirza a call to extradite Murad.
In 2007, Murad took part in a face-to-face meeting with General Hajj at the office of Judge Elias Eid. He presented a story with details which proved later on to be false, including the fact that he heard a conversation between Hajj and Syrian Brigadier General Rostom Ghazale in Anjar about an explosion they were preparing for.

Speaking to Al-Manar, General Ali Hajj urged the Lebanese judiciary and all concerned parties to immediately take action to question the false witness Akram Chakib Murad, especially that he's present in a Lebanese prison, contrary to other false witnesses who are present outside Lebanon.

Hajj said that questioning Murad would help the Lebanese judiciary to find out who asked him to say what he said and to present a false testimony. "Such discovery would lead to find out who are the killers of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri," he concluded.
