NAZARETH, (PIC)-- An Israeli military official denied that the Israeli army promised Mahmoud Abbas authorities to stop raids of West Bank cities and villages during the month of Ramadan.

“The army did not guarantee it would not raid Palestinian cities during the month of Ramadan,” head of the Israeli army’s Civil Administration in the West Bank Yoav Mordechai, told a news conference. He explained that the army would carry out raids in the event of “hot security warnings”.

In related incidents, Israeli occupation forces (IOF) shut down Tuesday three shops in Al-Khalil municipal square, central Al-Khalil, and attacked citizens and activists in the area.

Local sources told PIC that IOF troops forced three shops on Shuhada’ street to close doors under the pretext of having military orders for that because of “security reasons.”

Five foreign activists were injured and two arrested after an attempt to block the soldiers from entering the shops.

In another incident, five Palestinians were arrested Tuesday in Al-Khalil during a mass campaign of raids and arrests by Israeli forces.

Eyewitnesses at the Arroub refugee camp told the PIC that Israeli troops arrested Obada Adawi, 17, Jihad Ahmed Sabateen, 22, and Wassam Mohammed Hassan, 17, who was returning from the mosque and passing by an Israeli checkpoint near the camp’s entrance.

University student Diyaa Nasir Jebran was arrested after he was summoned to meet Israeli intelligence in the Etzion military camp, as was Tahir Abul Kareem al-Sweiti, 21 after his house in Dura was raided.
