NABLUS, (PIC)-- The Israeli intelligence apparatus renewed the administrative detention, without charge or trial, of Palestinian academician Ghassan Dhukan for three months for the 9th consecutive time.

Dhukan, a lecturer at the psychology department in Najah University in Nablus, was detained on 16/12/2007 and was held under administrative custody since then without any charges leveled against him.

Director of Ahrar center for prisoners' studies and human rights Fuad Al-Khafsh denounced the step in a statement on Wednesday, adding that Dhukan was paying the price for being an extinguished academic.

He charged the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) with intentionally holding talented and highly educated Palestinians to harass and push them into leaving their country.

Khafsh pointed to the presence of four Palestinian university professors in IOA jails.

Aisha Abu Ghadaib, the wife of Dhukan, said that the detention was the fourth of its kind in IOA jails, adding that her husband suffers a health problem in his teeth that prevents him from eating well, which led to a big loss of weight.

The wife said that the Israeli prisons authority refuses to extend medical treatment for her husband at the pretext that he is an administrative detainee.

Aisha said that Dhukan, who is currently held in the Negev desert prison, was deprived of his mother's visit because of her health condition, adding that their children could only visit him once every year due to security rejection.
