Ahmad Yusuf PhD, was born in a refugee camp in Rafah bodering Egypt in 1950. He studied in Egypt, UAE, Turkey and the US. He earned his Masters degress in Enginerring from Colorado State University and journalism from University of Missouri-Columbia and PhD in political science (Columbia Univerity). In the 1990s, he was associated with Washington-based think tank United Association for Studies and Research (under attack from Daniel Pipes and ADL) and acted as Editor-in-Chief of the Middle East Affairs Journal.
Currently, Ahmad Yusuf is acting as deputy foreign minister for Hamas government in Gaza Strip. In his political thinking, he is much closer to Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan than Taliban. Last year he told Turkish daily Hurriyet: “If you speak with the people in Gaza, you will see that everybody speaks like Erdogan. I mean, they all want what he wants for his own country,” Yusuf said, adding that this is contrary to foreign public opinion, which assumes Hamas to be equivalent to the Taliban or al-Qaeda. Yusuf is also in favor of the EU proposal for temporary borders and a five-year cease-fire, (giving more time to Jews to put thousands of new illegal settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem).
Linda Gradstein, a Jewish journalist whose articles are published in most of anti-Muslim newspapers, interviewed Ahmad Jusuf in his Gaza office in 2009. She wrote in Slate magazine: “Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Yusuf, who is seen as a moderate, says Hamas is satisfied with the results of the fighting with Israel. “I don’t think Israel achieved any of its objectives. They said they would stop us from firing rockets, but the rocket capability is still there. They said they would make people angry at Hamas, but most people back Hamas. And they said they would weaken Hamas, but like a phoenix Hamas rises from the ashes.”
Israel has found its ‘moderate’ Christian politician too. Not Joe Lieberman, but Mike Huckabee, an Evangelical minister and Fox News host. He is being projected by Israel Lobby as a potential 2012 US presidential candidate. Huckabee spends more time in Israel supporting new Jewish settlements than in the US. On February 9, 2011 – he told a Zionazi crowed in Jerusalem that if Palestinians want a state of their own, they should ask some Arab country and not Israel.
“There are vast amounts of territory that are in the hands of Muslims, in the hands of Arabs. Maybe the international community can come together and accommodate,” he said in a meeting with reporters.
Ahmad Yusuf wants new election in the Occupied Territories to elect a common new president and lawmakers to rule both Gaza and the West Bank. The current PA president Mahmoud Abbas’ mandate expired in January 2009 and he is being glued to his chair by a decree.
Sadly, with all his ‘moderate’ credentials – Ahmed Yusuf did commit a major crime. In 2004, in an interview with Lebanese Al-Manar TV – he claimed that Israel was behind September 11, 2001 attack.
“Israel excels at espionage within the US, and is capable of disguising many operations as Islamic. In other words, Israel is capable of penetrating certain Islamic circles, of directing and running them behind the scenes, so that they will conduct operations from which Israel benefits. Anyone who considers the events of 9/11 cannot say that the Muslims gained anything. No one could have captured the pictures of the attacks so perfectly except for the cameras in the hands of several Mossad agents, who were near the scene of events and succeeded in filming the scene so that it will always serve Zionism to remind the world of the Arabs’ and Muslims’ crimes against America. Today, there is much evidence casting doubt on the ability of these Muslims, with their meager means, to carry out such an operation, and there are others, who profited from this operation more than the Zionist movement? Since the end of the Cold War, Israel has been trying to attain a position that would allow it to direct American policy …”
On July 17, 2007 – The Christian Science Monitor published an article entitled Yes, you can work with Hamas, written by Professor Augustus Richard Norton (Boston University) and Sara Roy, a senior research scholar and author. The authored recommended to Duby Bush that without negotiations with Hamas there will never be peace in the region and that Fatah could be more dangerous to Israel than Hamas. As expected – the Israeli Hasbara agents blasted both writers for making such a ‘anti-Semitic’ suggestion.
Obama’s Jewish undersecretary of states for near east affairs, Jeffrey Feltman had earlier prescribed a similar ‘moderate’ leadership change within Lebanese Islamic Resistance Hizbullah.
