PJF castigates Fatah persecution of Shawar

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Palestinian Journalists Forum has strongly condemned the Fatah authority in Ramallah for prosecuting Palestinian writer Essam Shawar for an article he wrote calling for national unity.

The Fatah primary court in Qalqilia city, north of the West Bank, put Shawar on trial and accused him of writing an article in the daily Palestine newspaper" jeopardizing" Palestinian national unity.

"This is the first time the court prosecute a journalist or a writer for an article he wrote calling for national unity", Shawar said to journalists after his hearing ended in the court.

The PJF also berated the Fatah security forces in the West Bank for violently break up the sit-in of the Palestinian youths in Ramallah city calling for the immediate end of the political rift in the Palestinian arena.

In this regard, the PJF stressed its rejection to any aggression against Palestinian journalists anywhere and at the hands of anybody, stressing that using the ordeals of the journalists for factional interests is totally rejected.

The PJF called on all concerned Palestinian authorities to protect journalists and give them freedom of expressing their opinions.
