"We would rather starve than naturalize relations with Israel."

Yasmine Geoushi, an Egyptian TV presenter and journalist fired for rocking the boat of the Military council and Muslim brothers, she committed two crimes, she refused to  host the Israeli foreign affairs spokesperson during the channel's coverage of the events at the Israeli Embassy in Cairo. Instead she interviewed activist Walid Khairi, who asked those concerned to cancel the Camp David agreement.

"In a previous article Khalid Amayereh said: "The PA ought to press the new rulers of Egypt to make the Egyptian commitment to honor and uphold the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty subject to Israeli treatment of the Palestinian people. The same thing applies to all new governments and regimes in the Arab world. This is what everyone would call smart politics."

Cairo - Yasmine Geoushi, an Egyptian TV presenter and journalist for Al-Tahrir newspaper, was shocked when she was informed by the owner of the Egyptian January 25 TV, Mohammad Jawhar, that she had lost her job.
Geoushi believes her "position on the subject of establishing natural relations with the Zionist state" is the main reason behind her firing. Last August, Geoushi refused to host the Israeli foreign affairs spokesperson during the channel's coverage of the events at the Israeli Embassy in Cairo.

"The last Friday of Ramadan, I was approached by the channel's chief editor and asked to prepare an episode in front of the Israeli Embassy," Geoushi said. "I later discovered that I was supposed to interview and receive an on-air statement from the Israeli official and, of course, I refused."

"When they insisted, I told them I would direct the call to my colleague Amir Alaa Eddine in the studio who could receive it himself," Geoushi said. "Meanwhile, I interviewed activist Walid Khairi, who asked those concerned to cancel the Camp David agreement and I received urgent orders from the control room to terminate the interview immediately."

After this, the channel's management began to mistreat her up until she was injured covering the recent clashes in Mohammad Mahmoud street. After she recovered completely, the channel's director of legal affairs informed her that she had lost her job because the management, she explains, was "not satisfied with my performance."

Geoushi said that her central message is and will remain: "We would rather starve than naturalize relations with Israel."

Geoushi also noted that she had criticized the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and believes that this was another reason for her sudden dismissal.
