Daniel Sobelman, former Arab affairs correspondent for Israeli newspaperHa’aretz received his PhD from Hebrew University, Jerusalem, for a thesis focusing on Hizbullah’s military resistance against the Jewish army during 1993-2006. Currently he is doing postdoctoral research at Harvard.
On October 6, 2014, Israeli news website Al-Monitor publish Sobelman’s article entitled ‘Israel, Hizbullah recalibrate their mutual deterrence’ in which he claimed that the stronger Hizbullah gets militarily, its strength will act as a deterrent against Israeli army, which would think twice before starting a new war with Hizbullah.
Sobelman said Gen. Benny Gantz’s threat on October 3, “We will take Lebanon and knock it back 70 to 80 years”, a wishful thinking, citing Hizbullah fighter’s recent bombing attack on an Israeli tank inside Israeli-occupied Shebaa Frams, which wounded three Israeli soldiers inside the tank.
“Much like the Cold War, Israel-Hizbullah balance of deterrence is calculated, terrifying and mutual. Hizbullah is able to credibly claim that it will exact unbearable price from Israel in any future war and deny it the option of claiming a crushing victory,” wrote Sobelman.
In fact, Hizbullah denied Israel that option even after the 34-day war in 2006, according to Alastair Crooke and Mark Perry.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad are much weaker Islamic resistance groups than Hizbullah. Hamas is governing a ‘mini state’, and thus comes under the thumbs of international bullies (the US, EU and UN). Contrary to that, Hizbullah’s military wing is independent of Lebanese government or it ‘paper army’. Furthermore, Hamas doesn’t control Palestinian Authority (PA) or other Palestinian resistance groups. Hizbullah, on the other hand, is united under the leadership of Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah.
The Zionist regime, based on the above observation, could learn a lesson that if it failed to “destroy” Hamas during the recent 50-day war, how it expects to achieve that miracle against Hizbullah?
Another Harvard Jew expert on Hizbullah, Aaron Magid claimed at Israeli news website +972 on October 8, 2014 that after suffering the huge losses in human lives and infrastructure during the 2006 war, Hizbullah is not interested in starting a new war with Israel.
“In this devastating war, over 1,000 Lebanese (1,300 civilians according to UNHRC) were killed including hundred of Hizbullah fighters (according to an Israeli source 49 Hizbullah fighters were martyred while 139 Jewish soldiers were killed). Severely damaging much of country’s infrastructure. Israel also left almost one million unexploded ordinances in southern Lebanon, more than one for each of the area’s 650,000 residents,” boasted Magid.
Magid, as a hardcore Israeli hasbara idiot, did not miss the opportunity to blame Hizbullah for Mossad’s flase flag operations in Bulgaria and Argentina.
One has to forgive such Zionist ‘experts’, raised on Talmudic genocide and Jewish vengeance that military strength is the best deterrent. Hizbullah with only guns and rockets had already inflicted military humiliation to world’s “fourth most powerful army” in 2000 and 2006. Hizbullah still doesn’t posses Israel’s tanks, armored vehicles, F16s, nuclear-tipped missile, nuclear-submarines, Iron Dome, etc. What Hizbullah has but Israelis will never expect to have, is brave, pious, uncorrupt and down-to-earth leadership.
Earlier this year, Gen. Gantz added Hizbullah on Isreal’s chart of existentialthreat.
