Russia "justifying terrorism to overthrow Assad is not acceptable"
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov has stated that justifying terrorism to overthrow Assad is not acceptable.
Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov has commented on Turkish President Erdoğan and Foreign Affairs Minister Davutoğlu insistence on Syrian President Assad being taken down by the international coalition in the fight against Islamic State.
“The intentions of changing the regime in Syria with the justification of anti-terrorism are not acceptable for Russia. I hope, no one is talking about this.” Lavrov told the Russian news channel NTV.
He also emphasized the fact that Russia has called out for an international coalition against terrorism for decades and said: “[Necessary] measures must be taken regarding this issue. There should not be double standards here. Our western allies have come to understand that to change the regime in a country, sacrificing that nation is just wrong. This is a plus.”
