On Sunday, the Committee for Emergency & Relief and the Federation of Arab doctors urged the Egyptian authorities to respond quickly, and approve the entry of shipments of relief, humanitarian and medical products; to cover the deficiency of humanitarian aid in the suffocating Gaza Strip.
The Committee expressed it's serious concern about the Egyptian authorities attempt to alter the decision made earlier, to open the Rafah crossing for an indefinite period of time. This is an ugly betrayal which further will deepen the conflict in the relationship between the official Egypt and the Palestinians, the declaration assuring the Palestinians that the Rafah crossing would be open - now one more legal and moral obligation to the Palestinian people has been altered or breached.
The Israeli/Egyptian blockade of Gaza is revealing the worst of human nature and it's motives. The starving, the killing, the torturing and the besiege of the people of Gaza, these crimes has been ongoing while the outside world is passive watching.
It is crude and criminal, it is scandalous that the humanitarian aid in the quantity of 100 tons of medicine and wheelchairs,1000 tons of food and 5 million pounds of building material, including cement and iron bars is still being held in El Arish. This is the cargo the Committee on Wednesday, June the 2nd, had applied for, to be shipped into Gaza.
However, on Saturday the Committee for Emergency & Relief and the Federation of Arab Doctors successfully delivered, through the Rafah crossing, 85 containers of milk to the youth and the small children.
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Za'farani, the Secretary of the Relief and Emergency Committee sent an urgent request to officials in charge, no one has responded so far. Note that a large part of the loads of food and medicine to Gaza is funded by the institutions and bodies of the world wide Islamic charity.
43 month of sanctions imposed on Gaza, have left more than 1.4 million Palestinians cut off from the outside world, struggling with desperate poverty.Damaged or destroyed infrastructure, official and civilian buildings, including hospitals and schools, and the water and electricity systems.
The Israeli/ Egyptian blockade of goods-shipment, the prevention of peoples movement through the border crossings, and the 22 days of Zionist/ Israeli chemical terror war, forced Palestinian families to flee their homes as the war continued to ravage Gaza. On January 18, 2009, hours after the Israeli predators had left Gaza, we counted over 1450 killed and more than 5000 Palestinians wounded.
