LONDON, (PIC)-- The European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza confirmed it was not against the role played by the UN in distributing aid from the Freedom Flotilla in Gaza in principle, provided that it does not establish a future role for the UN to circumvent breaking the siege.
European campaign member Rami Abdo said in an exclusive statement to the Palestinian Information Center on Wednesday, "Our goal is basically to deliver aid, which is being achieved, but more importantly is to break the siege. And what we expect from the UN, as is expected from the free world, is not to limit their work to that only."
He added, "The UN is not a charitable organization as much as it is a major political role player for the implementation of practical measures to bring a full end to the blockade on the Gaza Strip."
The European campaign member stressed two basic principles: that this does not pave the way for future measures designed to circumvent the blockade, and that all Palestinian institutions in Gaza should participate in overseeing the distribution process, without exception of any party.

NEW YORK, (PIC)-- Robert Serry, the UN special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, announced on Tuesday that the UN had agreed to take hold of the aid shipment carried by the Freedom Flotilla.
He told the UN Security Council that the shipment, currently detained by Israel after its attack on the Flotilla, would head to its destination: the Gaza Strip.
The UN envoy said that the international organization had agreed exceptionally to distribute the aid to the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The UN obtained the approval of Israel and owners of the shipment carried in three Turkish ships to that step, Serry underlined.
