Prisoner Hamed in isolation cell since 2006
[ 03/08/2010 - 03:49 PM ]
OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The lawyer of the Palestinian prisoner society said that prisoner Ibrahim Hamed has been locked up in solitary confinement since he was kidnapped in May 2006 at the pretext he poses a threat to Israel's national security.
The lawyer noted that he visited the prisoner in his new isolation cell in Sharon prison after he was transferred from another jail.
For his part, prisoner Hamed told the lawyer that the Israeli prison authority and the Shabak transfer him every six months from one isolation cell to another in order to punish him and destroy him psychologically, adding that an Israeli intelligence officer once told him that he would spend his whole life in solitary confinement and would never see daylight.
According to him, the Israeli prison administrations refuse to provide him with any medical care or send him to a doctor to get medical treatment for severe pains he suffer from in his back, feet and left leg.
He is also deprived of many essential things except for three books sent by the Red Cross and is not allowed to see any member of his family or giving them phone calls. He is totally isolated.
Because of the endless charges filed against him by the Israeli military court, Hamed stands trial every Monday and Wednesday in Ofer.
The prisoner appealed to international human rights organizations to intervene to end his isolation in Israeli jails and improve his incarceration conditions.
