Armed group seizes rooftops in Lattakia, open fire at passers-by, citizens and security forces personnel


Lattakia, Damascus- An official source said an armed group seized rooftops in some districts of Lattakia on Saturday, opening fire at passers-by, citizens and security forces personnel.

Lattakia hospitals yesterday received about 150 wounded persons, mostly security forces members. Director of Al-Assad University Hospital Dr. Munir Osman said the hospital received 90 injured, 80 of them are security forces members while Lattakia National Hospital, according to its Director Monther Baghdadi, received about 60 including 50 security forces members.

The injuries varied between actual gunshot wounds with knives and iron bars.

A number of wounded told SANA reporter that they were directly attacked and the security forces didn't get in touch with attackers.

SANA correspondent in Daraa said the governorate's inhabitants escorted a number of bodies today including those who attacked the people's army headquarters in al-Sanamin.


The funerals didn't witness any clash or contact with the security forces, where dignitaries and clergymen called for calm and national unity to overcome the plot and sedition hatched against Syria.

In Tafas, a number of persons attacked a number of institutions and service facilities causing damage.

In Homs, the body of martyr Adel Fandi, killed yesterday by an armed gang, was escorted.
An armed gang exploited gathering of some citizens in Homs and stormed the officers club, opened fire and attacked people and facilities causing damage to the shops and some facilities.

Lattakia- An official source said the attacks of armed gangs on the people and neighborhoods of Lattakia over the past two days have led to the martyrdom of ten peoples including security forces members and citizens and killing two persons of the armed groups.
The source added that about two hundred people, most of whom are from security forces, were wounded in these attacks, pointing out that the armed gangs attacked private and public properties and service institutions, broke shops, stormed some houses and terrorized citizens in their homes.

The source said the armed groups also attacked the National Hospital and smashed a number of ambulances and assaulted the medical crews in.

People of Lattakia in all neighborhoods and regions cooperated with the security forces and gave information about places of the armed gags which helped to arrest a number of them.

The sources mentioned that investigation with those persons is underway for knowing their motivations and backgrounds
