Local Editor
Advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on Foreign Affairs, Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati denied Saturday claims that direct talks took place between Iran and America during his visit to Oman.
According to Mehr news agency, Velayati clarified that “Sayyed Ali Khamenei has not authorized any official side to take part in any negotiation with America,” denying by that Western media’s claims on the occurrence of Iranian-American talks.
The Iranian senior official further told the agency that “the US officials should reconsider their hostile policies with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” in reference to the Western approach to the Iranian nuclear file.
“The Iranian nuclear file is an important ad strategic case for the Iranian people,” Velayati stated, stressing his country’s right to “possess nuclear power for peaceful uses.”
“The Iranian people have not and will not give up this right,” he added.
On the Syrian crisis, Velayati assured that “targeting Syria is part of a US plot, which is being implemented by the latter’s intolerant tools in the region in order to strike the resistance axis.”
Here, he indicated that “if this Western-Zionist plot was frustrated, and Syria’s independence was preserved, the balance of power will change in favor of the resistance in the region.”
In this context, the Iranian senior official reminded of Syrian central role in Hezbollah’s victory in July 2006 war, stating that “Syria’s logistic support was crucial for Hezbollah’s victory.”
He further considered that “Syria’s resisting role is central and basic for fighting the Zionist entity;” emphasizing that “targeting Syria is similar to targeting Iran and its allies in the region.”
