GAZA, (PIC)-- The Movement of Hamas said Saturday that Mahmoud Abbas’s threat to sever the security ties with the Israeli occupation is evidence that the arrests and security campaigns carried out in the West Bank are coordinated with the occupation.

In a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC), Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that such remarks refuted previous claims made by Abbas that the arrests, taking place in the West Bank, are carried out against criminals and not in the context of the security coordination with Israel.

Spokesman Abu Zuhri added that this confession confirmed that Abbas trades on the fate of the Palestinian people to serve his own political agenda.

Spokesman Abu Zuhri called on Abbas and his entourage to end these national crimes and release all Palestinian citizens from their jails, stressing that these crimes serve only the Israeli occupation and damage the Palestinian cause.

Abbas on Friday told Palestine satellite channel affiliated with Fatah that the security coordination with Israel is a must and very necessary and that his authority is Israel’s security partner, but he said he might reconsider the security relations with it if it carried out more assassinations (against Fatah cadres) in the West Bank.

For his part, senior Hamas official and lawmaker Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil criticized what he described as the political courtship of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Ramallah with Israel that is intended for resuming negotiations.

Dr. Bardawil said in a press release that Abbas, once again, proved that the conditions he set to resume his negotiations with Israel were delusional and for media consumption.

The Hamas official underscored that Abbas expressed his readiness to return to the political gambling table to gamble on the remaining rights of the Palestinian people, especially after he ran out of cards and lost his legal and moral legitimacy.

In the same context, a number of West Bank citizens said they were not surprised to hear Abbas confess to his security cooperation with the Israeli occupation and condemned it as treason.

“We in the West Bank were not surprised by Abbas’s confession to the security coordination because we see it with our own eyes every day, where those who are arrested by Abbas’s apparatuses, are re-arrested by the Israeli occupation authorities with the same file and confessions,” one of the citizens said.

In another context, spokesman Abu Zuhri reiterated his Movement’s adherence to the achievement of the national reconciliation, stressing that Hamas made several initiatives in this regard.

In a statement to Al-Quds satellite channel, the spokesman said that Hamas is very serious about the reconciliation, calling on Fatah to accept the initiative of Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya.

He underlined that Hamas is not subject to others’ dictates, but it is subject to the interest of the Palestinian people and works on fulfilling their aspirations.
