In a speech he delivered after he received the delegates of the lifeline convoy led by British MP George Galloway in Gaza city, Haneyya stressed that Gaza defends the Egyptian national security and it was never a national security threat to Egypt.
“The party that indeed poses a national security threat to Egypt and to the entire Arab and Muslim Ummah was the Israeli occupation and Gaza that defends the Arab and Muslim dignity and honor”, the prime minister underscored.
He also regretted Egypt’s decision to build a steel barrier along its borders with the Strip, stressing that the people of Gaza possess “steel will and determination”, adding that concepts and nature of the relationship between the besieged Gaza Strip and Egypt must be delineated.
Haneyya also highlighted the right of the Palestinian people to resist the Israeli occupation, stressing, “We either live in dignity or die as martyrs”.
In this regard, Haneyya called on the Arab and Muslim worlds to consolidate their ranks in supporting the Gaza Strip and in rescinding the unjust siege imposed on it, disclosing that not a single penny of the money collected in the Sharm Al-Sheikh conference in the name of rebuilding the Gaza Strip has reached the Strip.
Furthermore, Haneyya reiterated his government’s determination not to recognize the Israeli occupation of Palestine at any cost, pointing out that the Palestinian issue today enjoys more support and more presence across the world than it was before.
In addition, Haneyya regretted the assault on members of the lifeline convoy at the Egyptian port of Al-Areesh, stressing that the Palestinian people would never lose confidence in Egypt which he described as “the strategic depth of the Palestinian people”.
Moreover, Haneyya hailed Galloway and his comrades for the precious sacrifices they had made for the Palestinian people in Gaza, describing Galloway and his comrades as “genuine Palestinians” for caring for the Palestinian issue.
He also commended the official and popular support the convoy received in Turkey, Syria, and Jordan, quoting the words of the Libyan freedom fighter Omar Al-Mukhtar “we are a nation that never surrender, we either die or win”.
