Hamas: ICHR ignores campaign on Hamas in West Bank

[ 06/01/2010 - 10:29 AM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) has totally ignored in its last monthly report the Ramallah authority's campaign against Hamas supporters in the West Bank, one of Hamas leaders said on Wednesday.

He told the PIC that his Movement was surprised that the ICHR report was void of any reference to the large-scale campaign against Hamas in the West Bank in December that targeted preventing the Movement from celebrating its inception anniversary.

The Hamas leader pointed out that the report focused on the violation of the right of peaceful gathering in Gaza and preventing Fatah from celebrating its establishment anniversary and summoning tens of its cadres while not a word was mentioned on the campaign on Hamas.

He recalled that 527 persons were detained in the West Bank including wives of martyrs while 1,300 others were summoned within 20 days other than the confiscation of orphans' funds and the attacks on mosques.

He said that his Movement briefs the ICHR with the violations regularly and they make field visits to ascertain those reports, and added that a list of detainees was distributed to the media "so why are these violations ignored".
