Qasem: US and Israeli occupation will work to rescue Abbas

[ 09/10/2009 - 05:02 PM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC) Dr. Abdel-Sattar Qasem, professor of Political science at the Najah University in Nablus said on Thursday that Mahmoud Abbas will not resign his post despite popular Palestinian calls for his resignation.

Qasem said in an article published on al-Jazeera net that Abbas will not resign, because those who resign are those who gain their posts deservingly, but those who receive foreign aid or are made from outside the ranks of the people do not resign, those people are sacked of killed by those who put them in the post, but do not possess the freedom to resign.

"I estimate that Israel and the US are sorry for the chorus of disapproval against Abbas and they definitely are thinking of ways to repair the fault. Thus I think something will be done to restore Abbas's credibility to at least a section of the Palestinian people," Qasem said, adding that he expected a scenario such as Abbas making a strong statement in support of resistance and Netanyahu banning Abbas from travel for a couple of weeks.

Qasem also said that Abbas and Fayyad have given free hand to Zionists and Western aggressors to do whatever they like in the West Bank and ignored the Palestinian people in return for money and false promises. They have turned the Palestinian rights into salaries, cars and a luxurious life style. During their reign a Palestinian security unit, lead by an Israeli occupation army officer, killed resistance fighter Abdel-Majid Dodeen in al-Khalil.

Netanyahu Mulling Gestures to Bolster Abbas

Al-Manar

"09/10/2009 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering goodwill gestures that would bolster the Palestinian Authority, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported. The efforts represent an effort to help PA President Mahmoud Abbas, who suffered harsh criticism following a Palestinian decision not to press for the UN Human Rights Council's adoption of the Goldstone report on last winter's Israeli Gaza aggression.

Netanyahu is considering announcing a goodwill package during his meeting Friday with the special U.S. envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell. A senior political source in Tel Aviv said Thursday that during the meeting of the "forum of seven" senior ministers, a number of ideas were raised on goodwill gestures that would boost Abbas.

The Prime Minister's Bureau did not deny the existence of such proposals and noted that "some ideas are in place, but there has been no decision on the matter."......."

However, Tony have different opinion, Hamas is working to rescue Abbas

Expected from PP anal-yst, infected with Donkey's FLU

The ANGRY ARAB talked about Fath Coup sponsered by Usrael, and blames Hamas for rescuing Abu Mazen. He wrote:

"It seems that the US and Israel are up to something: the expression of opposition to Abu Mazen by the likes of Muhammad Dahlan and Nabil `Amr may indicate a plan by Israel and US to oust Abu Mazen to save the Fath collaborationist team. The Egyptian government has just announced a date of signing a reconciliation treaty between Fath and Hamas on the 25th. Hamas should be blamed for rescuing Abu Mazen. "

Finally Here is a comment From Lu of Spain

"Sometimes I fail to understand the Angry Arab. Being a political scientist as he is, and despite the vast amounts of papers and books he reads, he however utterly fails to understand Hamas (in my opinion), and very happily makes harsh comments on them when he is lacking half of the picture at least.

Today he's castigating Hamas for "rescuing" Abbas (... and others are echoing him) but he surely did not see how Hamdam urged Abbas to retract from what he did at Geneva to the war crimes report. And next we find Ereikat making declarations to the settlers press (Ynet) saying that Abbas is "reconsidering" bactracking.

Now imagine he does, as it may well happen, given his lust for power. It would be a resounding success for Hamas. As to the "reconciliation" move, he incredibly speaks from his guts and not from his brain.

One could expect more from an intellectual specialised in politics and having a sound knowledge of the history in the region. Were it for my guts I'd also say "there's nothing to speak about, both are two worlds appart". But I'm convinced Hamas must have several good reasons to act the way they're acting. I can think of five or six and they surely can think of more having all the data as they have, added to a first hand knowledge of Fatah's disgraceful deeds.

So, best is to wait and see, for they are not stupid.
And certain armchair generals shouldn't think they're smarter than them, specially when they're comfortably sitting behind a computer at home, rather with own life at risk 24x7x360, as the Hamas guys are.
