DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Ezzat Al-Resheq, member of Hamas's political bureau, has described the court verdicts against the "Hizbullah cell" in Egypt as politically motivated, stressing that those supporting the Palestinian resistance should be honored and not criminalized.
In an interview with the Quds Press, Resheq rejected the idea that the verdicts were purely judicial, saying, "we should not look at this issue from the judicial point of view because it has political dimensions, and we believe that those supporting the Palestinian resistance should be honored".
On Wednesday, an Egyptian court sentenced all 26 members of the alleged cell to harsh jail terms, including life-sentence to three of them, alleging the group members were planning to Carryout "terrorist attacks" to destabilize security in Egypt.
The group comprises two Lebanese nationals, five Palestinians, a Sudanese, and 18 Egyptians. Hizbullah party categorically denied it was targeting Egyptian security, and stressed that the group was only extending logistic support to the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip.
