OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated his rejection of Palestinian demands for a lasting peaceful settlement mainly a Palestinian state on 1967 land with Jerusalem as its capital.
Netanyahu, speaking on the 15th anniversary of the assassination of former premier Yitzhak Rabin on Wednesday night, said that Israel would never return to the pre 1967 borders and that Jerusalem would remain united under Israeli sovereignty.
He said that the settlement building, which caused a stoppage of direct talks between him and the Ramallah authority, did not contradict with the political process.
The premier renewed calls for establishment of a disarmed Palestinian state that recognizes Israel as a state for the "Jewish people".
Meanwhile, Settlers started building 600 housing units at end of freeze
The Israeli anti settlement organization "Peace Now" announced that Israeli settlers had started to build more than 600 housing units in the West Bank since the end of the settlement freeze last September 26.
Hagit Ofran, the director of Peace Now's Settlement Watch, said that 600 to 700 housing units were being built since that date, which is four times the construction pace before the freeze.
She said that purchases of 2,000 houses were made out of the 13,000 houses that obtained construction permits.
The Israeli government refused to renew the ten-month construction freeze in the West Bank, despite Palestinian and international calls.
