Zoabi: The peace talks behind Israel's violations against the 1948 Palestinians

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Arab Knesset member Hanin Zoabi said that the main reasons for the escalation of Israel's violations against the Palestinians in the 1948 occupied lands are the Palestinian Authority's frivolous peace talks and security cooperation with Israel.

"The occupation state has never recognized our identity and our collective national rights, but it considers us at best that part which must be domesticated and whose identity must be distorted," Zoabi said in a press statement.

"The occupation state practically closed the file of its preoccupation with the West Bank through its negotiations and security coordination [with the PA] and the file of Gaza through the blockade, so it is now preoccupied with strengthening the identity of the state and its borders and no longer busy with the occupied territories," the Knesset member underlined.

She also stressed that the citizenship law which stipulates pledging allegiance to the Zionist state means that every Palestinian has to acknowledge the legitimacy of Israel and apologize for the Nakba (catastrophe) and the national project.

The lawmaker added that this law would block any real opportunities for the return of refugees and legitimize Israel's racist acts against the 1948 occupied people.

The lawmaker noted that the Israeli occupation needs its negotiations with the Palestinian side because they protect it from external pressures and isolation, and warned that the peace talks weakened the Palestinian cause and destroyed all Palestinian political achievements made over years of struggle.

In a separate incident, an Israeli court issued a six-month suspended sentence against senior official of the Islamic Movement in the 1948 occupied lands Suleiman Igbaria and fined him 15,000 shekels on a charge of his participation in Al-Maghariba gate events at the Aqsa Mosque.

Suleiman stated that this sentence was unjust, but it would not deter him or the Islamic Movement from continuing to defend the Aqsa Mosque.
