New York Review of Books: Fayyad's gov't one of the world's most corrupt

WASHINGTON, (PIC)-- New York Review of Books magazine described Salam Fayyad in a report as the US man in Palestine and his government as one of the most corrupt in the world.

The report was written by American researcher Nathan Trall under the title "Our man in Palestine."

His report stated facts about Fayyad and his government like he heads an unelected cabinet in Ramallah city and his government is ranked sixth in the list of the world's most corrupt governments.

The report explained how the security cooperation between the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Israeli government reached unprecedented levels and pointed out that the PA security services are formally under the authority of de facto president Mahmoud Abbas, but they are, in practice, controlled by Fayyad.

1297 joint security operations were carried out this year by both the PA security forces and the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) and aimed at eliminating the armed wing of Fatah Al-Aqsa Brigades, Hamas's social and charity institutions, its resistance activities, and Islamic Jihad armed cells, according to Trall.

He noted that former Palestinian economy minister Bassim Khouri belied Fayyad's claims which were based on reports from the IMF and World Bank that his government achieved economic growth in the West Bank by 8.5 percent.

Khouri had said in a report published last week by Foreign Policy magazine that Israel's public relations machine and its international supporters abroad are the parties which propagate such exaggerated figures.
