Al-Hoss: Resistance Necessary While “Israeli” Threats Remain

Former Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss believed that the policy to distance Lebanon, which is followed by the government regarding the Syrian crisis, only works as an exceptional policy; where the state would be forced at some point to distance itself from some files.

"However, it is not right to hold fast to this policy regularly," al-Hoss stated in an interview with al-Kawthar TV station, further supporting the government's pro-Syrian stance.

Regarding demands received by the Lebanese government to condemn the Syrian regime, protect and support the rebel "Free Syrian Movement" through opening the Lebanon's northern borders, al-Hoss confirmed, "Lebanon cannot meet these demands because Syria is a sister and neighboring country."
"Lebanon has the ability to stand against these demands and adopt the stance that interacts with its conviction," he stated, stressing that "the Lebanese government should set borders for such behaviors that do not serve Lebanon's interests in any way."

Moreover, former PM al-Hoss indicated that the vote of confidence on the government "enhanced its position and gave it a booster dose; which does not serve the opposing team." Also, he noted the dispute between the different parts of the opposition, which occurred while discussing this step [vote of confidence]. "It was a wrong decision that served the government," he affirmed.

On the level of the resistance weapons, al-Hoss reiterated his stance stressing that "the resistance is necessary as long as there is an "Israeli" threat on Lebanon."

"I don't see any relations between the [resistance] weapons and the [electoral] proportionality that has become necessary for Lebanon, to provide a clearer and more honest representation," former Lebanese PM went on to say.

On another hand, al-Hoss described the constant "Israeli" threats against the Islamic Republic of Iran as "mere rhetoric", and indicated "it is not easy for the "Israeli" enemy to simply attack a country like Iran, because in that case, Iran will for sure have a highly powerful response."

Furthermore, al-Hoss acknowledged that "it is Iran's right to adhere to its peaceful nuclear program, because that reflects the sovereignty it practices."
