Palestinian Hunger Striker Enters 58th Day, Loses Immunity System
Local Editor
34-year-old Palestinian detainee Thaer Halahla, who has been on a hunger strike for 58 days now said that a recent liver and kidney scan revealed that his body was unable to function and that his doctors had informed him that he has lost his immunity system, Palestine Today reported Thursday.
Asserting that Halahla’s life is in danger, the detainee’s lawyer said he was brought on a wheel chair, adding that he has lost 24 kilograms and can’t walk anymore.
The detainee further told the lawyer from the Mandela Institute that he was suffering severe pain in his chest and stomach and that he could only see with his right eye.
Halahla insisted that he will go on with his hunger strike until ending the administrative detention policy, despite the drop in his blood pressure and sugar levels, escalation in heart beats, weakness in muscles, and bleeding in mouth.
Moreover, he called on everyone to follow up the cases of the hunger striking detainees, especially those detained with him in the Ramla Prison, as their health states are very critical.
Thaer Halahla is from Al-Khalil and has been detained since June 2010. He is on a hunger strike protesting his renewed administrative detention since then.
