MOSCOW, (SANA)- Russia criticized the UN report on "Sexual Violence in Conflict" for ignoring the crimes committed by the armed terrorist groups in Syria despite the many confirmations that were made in this regard.
Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, slammed the UN report, submitted on Wednesday at the Security Council, for holding the Syrian army alone responsible for the crimes of a sexual nature with only a passing mention of the responsibility of opposition members for such crimes.
Russia Today website quoted Churkin as saying that the content of the UN document raises questions as there were many confirmations about the opposition members' responsibility for sexual crimes.
He called for adhering to neutrality and objective and reliable information when discussing such a sensitive issue.
Syria's Permanent Representative to the UN, Bashar al-Jaafari, stressed in Syria's statement at the open session of the Security Council pursuant to article titled "Women, Peace and Security" dedicated to discussing the report of the Secretary-General on sexual violence in conflicts, that the work of the International Fact-Finding Committee on which the report was based has not been professional from the beginning, and it was rather politicized par excellence as it rejected hundreds of documents provided by Syria on the crimes of the armed terrorist groups.
