SAUDI ARABIA, (PIC)-- Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the secretary-general of the organization of the Islamic conference, warned of the serious consequences of the declared Israeli intention to turn the Aqsa Mosque from a holy site for Muslims into a Jewish shrine.

Informed sources at the organization said Ihsanoglu sent a message to US secretary of state Hillary Clinton and the Spanish presidency of the European Union warning them of the repercussions of any serious moves made by Israel and extremist Jewish groups against the Aqsa Mosque during this month.

The Israeli media had reported that the Aqsa Mosque would be demolished on March 16 by Israeli religious groups.

For its part, the union of Arab lawyers in Cairo called on Arab attorneys to organize a one-hour strike next Sunday in protest at the Israeli attacks on Islamic holy sites in occupied Palestine.

In Kuwait, the parliament strongly denounced the Israeli aggression on mosques in Jerusalem and the West Bank and called on the Arab and Muslim countries, and the international orgnizations to assume their responsibilities to stop these violations.

Kuwaiti lawmakers called for supporting the Palestinian resistance to confront the Israeli violations and expressed their rejection of any peace negotiations with Israel.

“If we gave up the Aqsa Mosque, we would relinquish Makkah,” one of the Kuwaiti MPs said.

Mauritanian parties also called on all Muslims in the world to immediately move to defend and support Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.

Students in Mauritania staged protests and activities to denounce the Israeli moves to Judaize the Islamic holy sites in Palestine.
