'Lebanon Can Seek Arab Help in Everything except Defense'

08/03/2010 Less than twenty-four hours separate Lebanese from the beginning of the third season of their favorite show, the "national dialogue" one…

The final touches of the "show" were put on Monday at the time the "new stars" were preparing their "first appearance" at the time other "poles" were debating the "topics" to be discussed, given that the "scenario" adopted in the second season caused some sort of "boredom" within the public…

Thus, and on the eve of the "first episode," the "debate" over the "form" of the dialogue turned to focus on the "content," hours after the head of the Marada movement MP Sleiman Franjieh joined other politicians and said that "some mistake" too place in the appointment of the new national dialogue committee…

For instance, Hezbollah believes the issue under discussion is the one concerning the ways to defend the country and safeguard the land, not the ways to disarm the Resistance in Lebanon. The stance was clearly confirmed by Administrative Development Minister Mohamad Fneish during the weekend…

Yet, some participants in the dialogue don't find a "distinction" between the defensive strategy and the Resistance arms. For instance, Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea considers that the "only" item which remains for discussion on the dialogue table was Hezbollah weapons. "So, there is no room for argument," Geagea told Lebanese daily An-Nahar. "The topic has already been determined and Hezbollah arms fall under the defense strategy."

Another "debate" is taking place ahead of the first session. It's the issue related to the Arab League participation in the dialogue. Indeed, the "symbols" of "Sovereignty, Freedom and Independence" are calling for an "Arab sponsorship" for the dialogue. Yet, the allies themselves don't seem to be united over this stance. The Phalange party, for instance, rejected it and MP Sami Gemayel went on to say that such participation would be considered as a "humiliation" for the Lebanese leaderships.

But Lebanon's Speaker Nabih Berri has his own "conclusion." According to him, Lebanon can seek Arab help in everything except the defense strategy issue and the President is aware of that. Speaking to Lebanese daily As-Safir, Berri warned "those" calling for Arab League involvement in dialogue sessions against fishing for Arab support. "Those who are pushing for Arab League participation are weaving a conspiracy against Arabs and want to get them to do something they don't want to do," Berri said.

According to some politicians, the mere fact that the key parties are meeting even if they don't reach quick results is a good sign…

Yes, but does this mean that the show's third season would be a "copy" of the second one? Would it be "fruitful"?
