GAZA, (PIC)-- The families of Palestinian prisoners in Egyptian jails on Wednesday held the government in Cairo fully responsible for the lives of their sons and called for releasing them immediately.

The spokesman for the families told a news conference held in Gaza that the prisoners in Egyptian jails are exposed to serious violations and merciless torture.

The spokesman highlighted that the families of the detainees are very concerned about the lives of their sons especially after Palestinian prisoner Yousuf Abu Zuhri was tortured to death last year at the hand of Egyptian officers in Burj Al-Arab prison.

On behalf of the families, the spokesman expressed their dismay at the international human rights organizations’ silence towards the Egyptian violations against Palestinian prisoners.

The families appealed to human rights organizations especially in Egypt to urgently intervene to get their sons released and disclose the unknown fate of many other Palestinians in Egyptian jails.

In another context, Palestinian minister of prisoners’ affairs Mohamed Al-Ghoul strongly denounced the Israeli prison authority for isolating senior Hamas official and representative of detainees Yahya Sinwar in solitary cell.

In a press release, Ghoul considered this step a desperate attempt by Israel to pressure Palestinian prisoners and their leadership to force captors of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit to make concessions regarding the swap deal.

The minister said that his ministry and the national committee for the support of prisoners that he heads will spare no effort to expose the Israeli violations against Palestinian prisoners and highlight their issues in international meetings and conferences.
