NAZARETH, (PIC)-- Israeli intelligence chief Yuval Diskin has addressed a message to Salam Fayyad, the illegitimate PA premier in Ramallah, and other officials ordering them to quell Palestinian demonstrations in the West Bank, a Hebrew daily said.
Ha'aretz reported on Monday that Diskin along with the commander of the Israeli army's central region said that the PA should work harder on restraining the demonstrations and avoiding their expansion into violent clashes.
The paper said that the message also said that cooperation with the PA would be harmed if such measures were not taken and Israeli arrests in zone A, under Palestinian security and civil control according to the Oslo agreements, would escalate.
For his part, the Israeli finance minister on Monday said that Mahmoud Abbas, the PA chief whose term in office expired in January 2009, should publicly pledge to dismantle Hamas's rockets in Gaza.
He was quoted by the Hebrew radio as saying that the Palestinians should recognize Israel as a "Jewish state".
