Egyptian official: Cairo would not block Iranian ships heading to Gaza

CAIRO, (PIC)-- A responsible source in the Suez Canal authority said that his authority did not receive any request from any country, especially Iran, regarding the passage of aid ships to the Gaza Strip.
Semi-official Egyptian daily Al-Ahram published on Wednesday quoted the official as saying that the Canal's authority would not adopt any measure against Iranian ships.
He explained that the Constantinople convention that governs the passage of ships through the Suez Canal, adding that they are all allowed to pass through the canal regardless of the color of their flag.
The Iranian Red Crescent had announced plans to send an aid ship to Gaza carrying relief material and medicines to break the Israeli siege imposed on the Strip for the fourth consecutive year.
