BEIRUT, (PIC)-- Lebanon held Israel responsible for any attack on Lebanon's people and infrastructure in response to an Israeli assertion it would use all means possible to block arrival of Lebanese aid ships to Gaza Strip.
The Lebanese foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that it sent a message to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in response to the Israeli permanent representative's message to Ki-moon.
It said that Beirut condemned the Israeli siege on Gaza in violation of the international law, and noted that it only allows the sail of ships from its ports after ensuring they followed Lebanese laws and marine procedures.
The ministry asked the world community to pressure Israel to stop violating the UN resolution 1701 and to end its daily violations of Lebanon's sovereignty and its constant threats against Lebanon, its people, and infrastructure.
Israeli war minister Ehud Barak reiterated at the UN on Monday that his government would not allow the Lebanese ships to break the naval blockade on Gaza, and held Lebanon responsible for the consequences.
A Lebanese ship loaded with relief material obtained permission to leave Lebanon heading to Cyprus then to Gaza while another was waiting for the green light from the Lebanese authorities.
