U.S. activist: Israeli siege depends on the complicity of neighboring countries

GAZA, (PIC)-- American Palestine sympathizer Max Ajl emphasized that Israel’s siege on the Gaza Strip relies on the complicity of neighboring countries, which in turn do what they do because of the silence of their people.

He noted that Israel’s image began to change negatively in the United States, saying, "Although Israel’s story was prevailing in the first three days of the massacre, there were differences that began to arise between America and Israel, and we should take advantage of them."

Ajl treated a paper titled “Repercussions of the Israeli offense on the Freedom Flotilla and the ways to benefit from it” during a seminar held by the Center for Political and Developmental Studies on Monday in Gaza.

Ajl said, "Yes ... America along with Europe controlled a large part of policy-making, but acceptance and legitimacy in the world today are not confined to the ideas of great powers, but other powers have status and legitimacy as well."

He confirmed that reaction has been strong and decisive in Latin America, as the union of Latin-American countries announced its rejection of Israeli intervention. The union asserts that the blockade cannot be tolerated, highlighting that Peru and Chile, two of America's allies, inevitably denounced Israel's violent intervention.

The American activist spoke about Turkey’s position, indicating that 60% of Turks believe that their country did not fulfill its duty regarding the Freedom Flotilla massacre, even though Turkey has frozen its military relations with Israel and is now considering reducing the level of diplomatic representation.

He added that Turkey is a member of NATO and the most important American ally in the region, and when Israel infringes on it, they infringe on an important agent of the American empire. And when Turkey stands by Palestine, this means that part of the American empire is standing by Palestine.

Max Ajl spoke of the importance of placing an embargo on Israel, withdrawing investments from it, and imposing sanctions on it, which requires public opinion, not a wait for governments whose positions do not live up to their people.

He said, “These are the easiest means which Palestinians may use, as they are peaceful and block the path for those who wish to brand them with ‘violence.’”

He concluded by saying, "We plant the seeds of action by initiatives such as the Freedom Flotilla and nonviolent civil disobedience, whereupon Israel in turn waters the seed when she reacts in violence, the fruit growing more, and the state of Israel becoming more violent, and the world rejects it by boycotting, withdrawing investments, and imposing sanctions. We have only but to continue to pressure in this direction.”
