Ihsanoglu: Expelling Jerusalemite MPs is part of Israel's Judaization scheme
[ 22/06/2010 - 12:13 PM ]
BEIRUT, (PIC)-- Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the secretary-general of the OIC, said Monday that the decision to exile four Palestinian lawmakers from occupied Jerusalem falls within Israel's systematic policy that is aimed to empty Jerusalem of its indigenous people and Judaize it.
Ihsanoglu said in a statement that he sent a number of letters to international officials urging them to intervene to dissuade Israel from carrying out its decision against the lawmakers.
For his part, Nabih Berri, the speaker of the Lebanese parliament, condemned the decision as an act of aggression on the Palestinian people's right to stay in their occupied land and a violation of the most basic human rights rules.
He also said it is part of Israel's scheme to cripple the work of the Palestinian legislative council, which started with the kidnapping of many of them.
The speaker called on the Arab parliamentary union and the union of the Islamic parliaments to put this issue on their agendas in the upcoming meetings in Damascus and Geneva.
In another related context, a number of West Bank people expressed their solidarity with the four Hamas-affiliated lawmakers who received military orders from the Israeli occupation authority demanding them to leave Jerusalem.
The West Bankers told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that the multi-faceted targeting of Hamas Movement confirms that it is still adherent to the resistance option and defends the Palestinian peoples' rights and constants, and reflects the popular rallying around its program.
They also pointed out that Israel wants to eliminate the influential leaders of Hamas from the Palestinian arena because they are the true defender of the Islamic holy sites and the Palestinian identity in Jerusalem.
IPU to discuss deportation of Jerusalemite deputies
[ 22/06/2010 - 10:09 AM ]
GAZA, (PIC)-- The secretary general of the inter-Parliamentary union, Anders Johnsson, has said that the deportation of the Palestinian Jerusalemite MPs from their hometown by the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) would top the agenda of the IPU's human rights committee in its next session scheduled for 12th July.
Johnsson said in response to a message by MP Mushir Al-Masri, who heads the international campaign to release the detained Palestinian deputies, that the deportation is in violation of the deputies' parliamentary rights and violates international laws and norms.
The international campaign had made a series of contacts with Arab and international parliaments and organizations in a bid to revoke the Israeli decision to banish those deputies.
The Israeli higher court last Sunday endorsed the Israeli interior minister's decision to exile those deputies.
Meanwhile, Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Hadarim jail denounced the judaization and repression against the holy city of Jerusalem.
They said in a message on Monday that the recent decision to expel the Jerusalemite deputies from the holy city bore witnesses to the IOA savagery and racist policies.
