Egypt's stubborn stand hinders Palestinian reconciliation efforts

CAIRO, (PIC)-- An independent delegation of Palestinian figures and high-profile personalities striving hard to achieve Palestinian national reconciliation was shocked by Egypt's stubborn stand that Hamas must sign the Egyptian paper first before any further talks in this file could proceed, Palestinian sources close to the delegation confirmed.

The sources also confirmed to the PIC that the delegation that is headed by Yaser Al-wedaya was profoundly disappointed with the Egyptian official stand regarding this file, adding that all rumors talking about a change in the Egyptian stand, especially after the Israeli navy bloody attack on the Freedom Flotilla that left nine Turkish activists dead and tens wounded, were apparently for propaganda only.

"It seems that Cairo has only bowed to the storm to pass before its goes back to its previous stubborn stand regarding the Palestinian reconciliation and regarding lifting the siege on Gaza" , sources added.

The convoy, according to the sources, met with Egypt's foreign minister Ahmad Abu Al-Ghait and two other high-ranking officials from the Egyptian intelligence department separately but failed to convince them to be flexible in this matter, adding that Egypt is still insisting that Hamas must sign the paper without any changes or modification, which Hamas refuses.

Moreover, the sources underlined that Egypt supports the idea that the Gaza sea port should remain under the Israeli siege, parroting the same American and Israeli allegations that the port might become an "Iranian" port.

Furthermore, the sources quoted members of the delegation as saying that Egypt has informed them that the Rafah crossing point won't remain open before the Palestinians because "all Palestinian students studying abroad had left the Strip".
