Palestinian MP warns peace talks with Israel will ‘liquidate’ Palestinian cause

RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- MP Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, said Israel is using the peace talks with the Palestinian Authority as a cover to “liquidate” the rights of the Palestinians.

“The unruliness of settlers and construction operations happening now in Palestinian lands confirm that the current negotiations are being used by Israel as a cover for the Israeli judaization and annexation operation, an operation to consecrate the apartheid regime and liquidate the rights of the Palestinian people,” Barghouthi said.

The MP warned in a statement on Saturday of dangers of continued peace talks in light of ongoing settlement activity. He added that there is great danger in excluding Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank in the settlement freeze.

“The alleged freeze and all the proposed solutions in this regard exclude Jerusalem from the freeze, meaning a new reality in which Jerusalem is cut off from the rest of the Palestinian lands and the desired Palestinian state,” he added.

“Unless we place real pressure on Israel to abide by international law and stop it from the longest occupation in modern history, the cycle of conflict will remain constant in the region,” Barghouthi concluded.
