According to Israeli columnist Aluf Benn – Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi, the retiring Chief of Israel Occupation Force (IOF) told the Defense Minister Ehud Barak that “initiating a war (with Iran) will only bring disaster upon Israel”. Ehud returned General’s professional advice by not extending his one-year service which is customary.
Gabi Ashkenazi took command of IOF in 2007 after the resignation of General Dan Halutz whose 30,000-strong Jewish Army was humiliated by Hezollah rsistance fighters during the 34-day Israeli invasion of Lebanon in Summer 2006.
Ehud Barak has named General Yoav Galant, the incharge of Israel’s Gaza front, to succeed him. “The impression is that Galant is more aggressive on Iran and will not block Netanyahu and Barak, who are eager to go into battle” against Iran, the Haaretz report said.
Mossad director General Meir Dagan, who stepped down last week, said in a valedictory briefing that the Islamic Republic would not be able to produce a nuclear bomb before 2015 and that Israel should not rush into military confrontation.
General Amos Yadlin, the head of IOF intelligence who retired last month – also admitted his fears that IOF is not capable of fighting a war with Islamic Republic alone.
Shin Bet domestic security chief Gen. Yuval Diskin, who ends his term in May 2011 – is also not in favor of attacking Iran unless Israel is attacked by Iran first.
Gen. Giora Eiland, former national security adviser to former prime ministers Ariel Sharon and Ehud Olmert, admitted on Army Radio that IOF is not in a position even to fight Lebanese Islamic Resitance: “Israel does not know how to beat Hezbollah”.
Those are the very reason that the leaders of the Zionist entity and their poodles in the Congress, Senate and Jewish lobby groups are trying their best to push American soldiers to die in Iran for Israel.
However, Dr. Gwynne Dyer, a London-based journalist believes that ”there nothing the US can do to Iran, short of nuking the place ……. It can bomb Iran’s nuclear sites and military installations to its heart’s content, but everything it destroys can be rebuilt in a few years. And there is no way that the United States could actually invade Iran”.
