[ 16/03/2011 - 10:49 AM ]
NAZARETH, (PIC)-- Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu has said that negotiations with Hamas over captured soldier Gilad Shalit faced a stumbling block because Hamas wants the release of 100 "dangerous prisoners".
He claimed in a statement on Tuesday that those prisoners if released to the West Bank would be able to strike at any Israeli target.
The premier reiterated he was committed to returning Shalit to his family, adding, however, that he was also committed to preserving the lives of seven million Israelis.
He affirmed that his government was ceaselessly working to secure the release of Shalit.
Hundreds of thousands of Israelis joined a rally for the release of Shalit on Tuesday, halting all work for five minutes at 11 am as many websites joined the same cause by stopping for a few minutes.
